The Fanshawe College Alumni Association presents an evening of Songs and Stories with Chris Hadfield and folk trio Trent Severn at the Grand Theatre on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 8:00pm.
In 2013, Canadian Astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield captivated the world from the International Space Station. During his multi-faceted career, Hadfield has intercepted Soviet bombers in Canadian airspace, lived on the ocean floor, and directed NASA’s operations in Russia. Proving to be as much a talented musician as he is a brilliant aviator and engineer, he charmed his fans with a number of memorable musical performances. Now retired, Hadfield’s debut album is set for launch this fall, with guitar and vocal tracks recorded while in space.
Joining Col. Hadfield is long-time friend, Fanshawe Alumnus and Juno nominated Canadian singer-songwriter Emm Gryner and her folk trio Trent Severn. Gryner, Dayna Manning and Laura C. Bates founded the group in 2011, and released their self-titled debut album in November 2012. Named for the Trent-Severn Waterway in Southern Ontario, this Canadiana band is based in folk, roots and old country sounds. All three women contribute to songwriting and vocals, and frequently reference Canadian culture and landscape in their music. The band was nominated for two 2013 Canadian Folk Music Awards, and continues to tour and perform around Canada.
