Co-hosted by 3-time Juno Award–nominated recording artist Emm Gryner and Stratford-based artist Rachael Frankruyter, B.Mus (Vocal Performance), this songwriting camp invites girls ages 12–17 to learn, write, share, and perform their own music in a supportive, inspiring environment.

Join us for a week of creativity, music, and connection at Riverwalk Commons — a beautiful, female-owned space by the river in St. Marys. Whether you're a beginner or already writing songs, you'll learn to craft lyrics, explore melody, and collaborate with other girls who love music just as much as you do. Through creative walks, inspiring talks, and supportive workshops, you’ll build confidence in your voice and songwriting skills while receiving positive feedback in a fun, uplifting environment. Songwriting Day Camp FAQ

What are the camp dates and daily schedule?

Monday–Friday August 10-14
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily
Lunch break: 12:30–1:15 PM

Optional extended-day coaching and music collaboration is available Monday–Wednesday until 6:00 PM (additional fee).

A showcase performance will take place Friday, August 14 at 2:30 PM for participants who wish to share their songs.

Where is the camp located?

Riverwalk Commons
84 Water Street South, St. Marys, Ontario
A historic, female-owned event space located along the Thames River.

What is the cost?

$497 + HST

Optional extended-day coaching (until 6:00 PM):
$197+HST per day, limited spots available.

How many campers will attend?

Enrollment is limited to 12 campers to ensure individual attention and mentorship.

Who is running the camp?

Emm Gryner – 3-time Juno Award–nominated recording artist, ICF Certified Coach, Certificate of Distinction in Vocal Pedagogy (Boston Conservatory at Berklee), CPR & First Aid certified.

Rachael Frankruyter, B.Mus (Vocal Performance) – Western University graduate, Stratford-based artist and educator.

Both hosts are Vulnerable Sector / Police Checked.

What is the camper-to-instructor ratio?

6:1

What will my child learn during the camp?

Participants will explore songwriting fundamentals, lyric and melody development, modern and classic song analysis, overcoming writer’s block, collaboration skills, managing performance nerves, and positive approaches to feedback.

Do campers need prior musical experience?

Basic familiarity with music or a strong interest in songwriting is helpful, but no prior songwriting experience is required.

Should participants bring an instrument?

Yes, if possible. Guitars and keyboards will also be available onsite.

Will songs be written individually or in groups?

Both options are supported. Collaboration is encouraged but never required.

Will campers perform their songs?

Yes, participants who wish to share their work may perform at the Thursday showcase (2:30 PM).

Will they have the opportunity to record their music?

Recording is not included in the camp fee but can be arranged privately with Emm or Rachael after camp.

Will there be guest speakers or special workshops?

Possibly. None are confirmed at this time. The primary focus is participant creativity.

What is the drop-off procedure?

Drop-off begins at 9:45 AM daily at Riverwalk Commons. Earlier arrival must be arranged in advance and may involve an additional fee.

What is the pick-up procedure?

Pick-up is at 4:00 PM daily.
Extended-day participants may be picked up at 6:00 PM.

Overflow parking is available at the nearby Canadian Tire lot.

What should my child bring each day?

Notebook, pen, water bottle, lunch, snacks, comfortable clothing, and walking shoes. Meals are not provided.

What happens if my child has dietary restrictions?

Health and information forms will be provided upon registration to list allergies, dietary needs, medications, and emergency contacts. Enrollment is not complete until forms are submitted.

What is your policy on phones and technology?

Phones must remain silent and unused during songwriting sessions (10:00–12:30 and 1:15–4:00).

How do you handle conflicts between campers?

A strict policy of respect and inclusion is established on day one. A zero tolerance policy for bullying or unkind behaviour will be upheld. Parents will be contacted if a camper cannot follow camp guidelines.

What are your safety protocols?

Riverwalk Commons is fully up to code with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, clear exits, and fire safety equipment. Emm Gryner is CPR/First Aid certified and the hospital is located 1.1 km away. Both Emm Gryner and Riverwalk Commons carry insurance under Ontario law for this event.

What happens if my child gets sick or injured?

Emergency contacts listed on registration forms will be notified immediately.

What if my child does not want to share their songs?

Sharing is completely optional. There is no pressure to perform.

Are there opportunities for continued songwriting development after camp?

Yes. Emm and Rachael both offer mentorship and coaching beyond the camp experience.

Who can attend the showcase?

Each camper may invite up to three guests to the Thursday showcase. Additional guests may be allowed if space permits.

Do you offer refunds?

Refunds are not available. Registrations may be transferred to another participant up to 28 days before the camp start date.
